Minor Leak Contained at Haifa Port, No Public Danger

Firefighters responded to a report of a potential hazardous materials incident at Haifa Port on Tuesday after a minor leak was detected from an "ISO tank" belonging to the "Deshenim" company. Upon arrival, emergency crews quickly worked to locate the source of the leak, isolate the area, and test ambient material levels to ensure the safety of workers and the surrounding environment.

Monitoring tests conducted by the fire department indicated that the measured levels were low and localized, detected only in close proximity to the tank itself. Consequently, it was determined that the incident did not constitute a significant hazardous materials event. However, crews continued to operate with extreme caution until the situation was fully managed and the risk neutralized.

The ISO tank was sealed and placed in a containment area, designed to hold liquids or materials in case of leakage and prevent their spread. After the tank was deemed isolated and safe for further handling, it was moved from the incident area. Using a crane, the tank was transferred to the eastern quay of the port, where additional inspections and maintenance will be performed as needed.

Throughout the event, multiple environmental tests were performed around the area to confirm the leaked substance was not spreading beyond the tank's immediate vicinity. The results consistently showed low, localized levels, with no indication of significant diffusion or broader risk within the port. These findings allowed emergency services to focus on a targeted response to the tank without needing to expand the isolation zone or implement further extraordinary measures.

The Haifa Port fire and rescue services reported that there is currently no concern of a substantial hazardous materials incident and that the situation is fully under control. The crews completed the sealing and transfer operations, and no injuries or evacuations were reported. The port will continue to monitor the tank's condition and conduct necessary checks until the issue is fully resolved. Normal port operations remain unaffected beyond the immediate emergency response zone.
