Drunk Driving Suspect Arrested in Fatal Hit-and-Run of Ironman Athlete
Police in the Golan Heights have arrested a 20-year-old local man on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and fatally striking cyclist Tal Gilboa. Gilboa, a triathlete who had previously competed in the Ironman competition, was killed on Tuesday when he was hit by a car while riding his bicycle on Route 98 near the Magshimim junction.
Initial investigation at the scene by traffic police officers indicated that the driver of the private vehicle was intoxicated. A subsequent test confirmed the presence of alcohol in his system. The suspect's detention has been extended as the investigation continues.
