Drunk Driver Charged with Fatally Striking Pedestrian, Fleeing Scene

Translated & summarized from NEWSru Israel by baba
The story · English

The State Prosecutor's Office has filed an indictment against 36-year-old Inbar Kahlon of Moshav Porat, charging her with vehicular manslaughter, leaving the scene of an accident without rendering aid, drunk driving, and driving onto the shoulder. The indictment states that on the evening of September 5, Kahlon was driving her BMW on Highway 5535. Her blood alcohol content was three times the legal limit.

Approaching the entrance to her moshav, she veered right and struck 48-year-old Amos Gueta, a resident of the moshav, who was walking on the roadside. Gueta died at the scene from his injuries. Despite knowing she had been involved in an accident, Kahlon continued driving home without calling for help or assessing the consequences.

She reportedly stopped her car and exited it multiple times after the crash to check for damage. Police apprehended Kahlon at her home several hours later. In their request for her remand until the end of proceedings, prosecutors highlighted that Kahlon had consumed alcohol before driving drunk.

Prosecutors noted that Kahlon had a prior conviction for drunk driving. They argued her actions demonstrated not only the danger of her driving but also a broader disregard for human life, the consequences of her actions, and a failure to assist the victim.
