Israeli Man Charged After Fatal Hit-and-Run of Reservist Motorcyclist Near Yokneam

Following an investigation by Northern District investigators, an indictment was filed against a 40-year-old resident of Umm al-Fahm for a fatal hit-and-run incident involving a reservist soldier riding a motorcycle. On June 12, 2026, early in the morning, Israeli police received reports of a severely injured motorcyclist found on Highway 6 near Yokneam, and a vehicle nearby engulfed in flames about 200 meters from the accident scene.

Shortly after initial reports, police received a call from the owner of the burning vehicle claiming his car had been stolen and fled toward Yokneam. Emergency teams arriving at the scene pronounced the motorcyclist, a reservist soldier returning home from active duty in the north, dead. Initial investigations, including witness testimonies, revealed that the vehicle owner had set his car on fire and fabricated the theft claim to conceal involvement in the accident.

Police arrested the suspect and, after weeks of investigation, linked him to the accident and the crime of leaving the scene. Evidence showed the suspect was driving at approximately 132 km/h. Yesterday, the Northern District Prosecutor's Office, represented by Attorney Rajed Shdafna, filed charges including leaving the scene after causing death by negligence, evidence destruction, obstruction of justice, false reporting, reckless and negligent driving, and speeding. The prosecution requested the suspect remain in custody until the conclusion of legal proceedings.
