Israeli Reservist Killed in Hit-and-Run Near Yokneam; Suspect Arrested for Arson and False Theft Report

On June 12, 2026, early in the morning near Yokneam, Israel, a reservist soldier was fatally struck by a vehicle while riding his motorcycle. Emergency services found the motorcyclist critically injured on Highway 6, and a car involved in the accident burning about 200 meters away. The vehicle's owner later called police claiming his car had been stolen and fled toward Yokneam, but investigations revealed this was a false report.

The victim, a reservist returning home to southern Israel after active duty in the north, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police collected eyewitness testimonies identifying the suspect setting the car on fire. The suspect, a 40-year-old resident of Umm al-Fahm, was arrested by Northern District police. Evidence gathered over several weeks linked him to the hit-and-run and abandonment of the victim, with investigators determining he was driving at approximately 132 km/h.

Following the investigation, the Northern District Prosecutor's Office filed charges against the suspect, including causing death by negligence, hit-and-run, destruction of evidence, obstruction of justice, false reporting, reckless and negligent driving, and speeding. The prosecution requested his detention until the end of proceedings. The Israel Police emphasized their strict stance against hit-and-run offenses and their commitment to public safety and law enforcement.
