Israeli Reservist Killed in Hit-and-Run on Highway 6; Suspect Sets Car on Fire and Falsely Reports Theft

A serious hit-and-run incident occurred on June 12, 2026, early in the morning on Highway 6 near Yokneam, when a 40-year-old resident of Umm al-Fahm struck a motorcycle rider, a reservist soldier returning home after active duty in the north. The motorcyclist was found critically injured and later pronounced dead at the scene by medical teams.

Instead of providing assistance, the suspect set his vehicle on fire about 200 meters from the accident site, apparently to destroy evidence, and then falsely reported to the police that his car had been stolen and was fleeing toward Yokneam. Police investigations, including witness testimonies and forensic analysis, revealed the suspect’s involvement in the accident and the fabricated theft claim.

The suspect was arrested by Northern District police after evidence showed he was driving at approximately 132 km/h, a speed that contributed to the severity of the crash. The indictment filed by the Northern District Prosecutor’s Office includes charges of leaving the scene of an accident, causing death by negligence, evidence destruction, obstruction of justice, false reporting, reckless and negligent driving, and speeding.

The police emphasized the gravity of hit-and-run offenses and pledged to continue strict enforcement against drivers who abandon victims at accident scenes. They noted the suspect’s deliberate actions to cover up the crime, highlighting the premeditated nature of the incident. This case adds to a recent series of hit-and-run accidents in Israel, underscoring the ongoing problem of drivers fleeing crash sites.
