Israeli Police Solve July Hit-and-Run Murder Near Shomriya, Arrest Suspect

Israeli police announced the resolution of a murder investigation involving the death of a Palestinian resident near the West Bank seam line in the Shomriya area. The incident occurred in July when a 24-year-old Palestinian suspect from Dura, who was driving without a license and carrying a handgun, allegedly struck three illegal Palestinian workers with his vehicle. One of the victims was critically injured and died at the scene, while two others sustained moderate injuries and were hospitalized at Soroka Medical Center. After the hit-and-run, the suspect fled the scene.

Following an intensive two-day manhunt and investigation by the Central Unit of the Rotem District, the suspect was apprehended in Beersheba, where he was also found to be an illegal resident. Police recovered the vehicle used in the crime, hidden beneath a water carrier. The Southern District Prosecutor's Office has filed an indictment against the suspect for murder and additional offenses and requested his detention until the conclusion of legal proceedings.

Deputy Superintendent Dudu Avraham, head of the Rotem Central Unit, described the investigation as complex but conducted with determination, professionalism, and speed. He credited the combined operational and investigative efforts for the swift arrest and the establishment of a strong evidentiary basis. Avraham emphasized the unit's ongoing commitment to combating criminals who endanger human lives and bringing them to justice.
