Driver Arrested After Fatal Hit-and-Run Near Porat

A woman in her 30s was arrested Saturday evening on suspicion of involvement in a fatal hit-and-run accident near the moshav of Porat in central Israel. Police allege the driver struck a pedestrian, identified as a man in his 40s, and fled the scene. Traffic police and officers from the Shacham station in the Sharon region located and apprehended the suspect shortly after the incident.

The fatal collision occurred on road 5535. Magen David Adom (MDA) emergency medical teams were dispatched around 7:00 PM and found the man unconscious, without a pulse or breathing. Despite resuscitation efforts, medical personnel declared him dead at the scene due to severe, systemic injuries.

"The injured man, who suffered from systemic injuries, lay unconscious, without a pulse or breathing. We performed medical checks, but he had no signs of life and we had no choice but to pronounce him dead," described MDA paramedic Samer Mansour.

Following the report of the hit-and-run, accident investigators from the Central District Police launched an accelerated investigation. The driver was taken for questioning by traffic accident examiners, and her vehicle was impounded for investigative purposes. Investigators are examining the circumstances of the crash, including the driver's speed, road conditions, and whether she was aware she had hit someone when she fled.

This incident is one of several fatal hit-and-run accidents in recent weeks. Last weekend, two people were killed in serious road accidents across the country, including an ATV rider who was struck in a hit-and-run near the Gaza envelope.
