Tal Gilboa, 47, Dies in Road Accident While Cycling

Tal Gilboa, a 47-year-old resident of Kibbutz Kfar Haruv in the southern Golan Heights, died Saturday morning in a road accident on Highway 98 near the Magshimim junction. Gilboa was riding his bicycle when he was struck by a vehicle. Paramedics who arrived at the scene attempted resuscitation but were forced to pronounce him dead. Gilboa was a well-known figure in Israel's triathlon and cycling community, having participated multiple times in the Israman competition in Eilat and in Ironman events abroad. He was preparing for his first full Israman race. His longtime coach, triathlete Dan Alterman, mourned his loss, recounting how he immediately feared it was Gilboa when he heard about a cyclist killed in the accident. "A black morning. A morning that cuts short entire lives, with so many plans, dreams, and moments yet to be had," Alterman wrote, describing Gilboa as a "good friend. Salt of the earth. Always quiet, modest, without fanfare and without the need to prove himself." He recalled Gilboa's determination, noting he completed an Ironman with a broken shoulder. Alterman mentioned they had met just days before the accident to discuss training plans, adding, "Who would have believed that this would be our last meeting. In retrospect, it was as if I was granted a farewell meeting." He extended condolences to Gilboa's wife, Galit, his children Yuval and Maya, and their family and friends. Kibbutz Kfar Haruv issued a statement expressing shock and deep sorrow over the death of their "beloved member." Gilboa's death occurred just one week after another cyclist, Itzik Barashi, 56, a director at Kan 11 News, was killed in a road accident while cycling on Highway 44.
