Ironman Triathlete Tal Gilboa Killed in Cycling Accident in Golan Heights
Tal Gilboa, a 47-year-old resident of Kibbutz Kfar Haruv in the southern Golan Heights, was killed early this morning when he was struck by a vehicle while cycling on Highway 98 near the Magshimim junction. Gilboa, an accomplished triathlete who had also competed in the "Ironman" race, was riding his bicycle at the time of the accident.
His coach, Dan Alterman, described as one of Israel's greatest triathletes, posted a moving tribute online. Alterman recounted receiving the initial news of a cyclist's death and his immediate fear that it was Gilboa. He sent Gilboa a message, received no response, and shortly thereafter learned the tragic news.
The accident occurred on Highway 98, a route frequently used by cyclists in the region. The circumstances surrounding the collision are under investigation.
