Susan Sarandon, Hannah Einbinder Arrested at UN Protest Against Netanyahu

New York City police arrested at least 30 demonstrators outside the United Nations headquarters on Thursday, prior to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's address to the General Assembly. Among those detained were actresses Susan Sarandon and Hannah Einbinder, along with Democratic congressional candidate Darializa Avila Chevalier and New York City Council member Chi Ossé. The protest was organized by Jewish Voice for Peace, an anti-Zionist Jewish organization advocating for the Palestinian cause. Approximately 200 individuals, wearing white t-shirts with slogans such as "Fund People, Not Bombs," "No to War," and "Free Palestine," gathered near the UN. Some activists sat in the roadway, blocking traffic, and were ordered by police to disperse. While some protesters moved to the sidewalks, a group remained seated, chanting slogans critical of the Israeli prime minister. Police then removed the activists one by one, handcuffing them with plastic ties before escorting them to police vehicles. Inside the General Assembly, Netanyahu delivered remarks defending Israel's regional policies and military operations. During his speech, dozens of delegates reportedly walked out of the hall.
