Oscar Winner Susan Sarandon Arrested at Pro-Palestinian Protest Outside UN

Police in Manhattan arrested numerous pro-Palestinian demonstrators on Thursday who were blocking traffic near the United Nations building. The protest intensified shortly before Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was scheduled to address the UN General Assembly. Demonstrators gathered to protest Netanyahu's arrival, prompting security forces to intervene and clear the blockades in the secured area.

Among those arrested in the turbulent demonstration were several well-known figures from the American entertainment industry. Oscar-winning actress Susan Sarandon, known for her political activism, was detained along with Emmy-winning actresses Cynthia Nixon and Hannah Einbinder. Actor Elliot Page was also present, showing support for the protest.

The wave of arrests also included prominent political and public figures. Detainees included Chelsea Manning, known for leaking classified documents via WikiLeaks, political activist Linda Sarsour, and Dalia Al-Aqla, a candidate for Congress who recently won the Democratic primary. Zoohraan Mamdani, an advisor to a New York State Assembly member whose entry into Israel was recently denied, was also arrested.

Large police forces deployed around the UN complex continued to clear routes and arrest protesters who refused to comply with orders. The objective was to ensure the passage of security convoys and the proper conduct of the diplomatic event.
