Susan Sarandon Among Celebrities Arrested at UN Protest

Manhattan police arrested pro-Palestinian demonstrators outside the United Nations headquarters on Thursday as they blocked traffic near the building. The protesters gathered to demonstrate against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's arrival for his speech at the General Assembly. Among those detained during the protest were well-known figures from the American entertainment industry, including Oscar-winning actress Susan Sarandon, who is known for her political activism.

Also arrested were Emmy-winning actresses Cynthia Nixon and Hannah Einbinder. Actor Elliot Page was also present to show support for the protest. Chelsea Manning, who leaked documents from "WikiLeaks," was among the detainees. Linda Sarsour, an advisor to Zohran Mamdani, whose entry into Israel was recently denied, was also arrested.

Large police forces were deployed around the UN complex to clear roads and detain protesters who refused to comply with orders. The arrests were made to ensure the passage of security convoys and the proper conduct of the diplomatic event. The arrests occurred while Prime Minister Netanyahu was preparing to deliver his address to the General Assembly.
