Israel's UN Envoy Calls for NYC Mayor's Arrest

Israel's Ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, has called for the arrest of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, citing incitement and cooperation with "enemies of the United States." The statement comes ahead of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's scheduled arrival in the U.S. for the UN General Assembly. Mamdani has previously stated his intention to execute an International Criminal Court arrest warrant issued against Netanyahu in November 2024, calling the Israeli prime minister a "war criminal" and "architect of genocide." While Mamdani later acknowledged he could not execute the arrest alone, Danon accused him of fanning antisemitic chaos and inciting protests against Netanyahu.

Danon specifically referenced an alleged attempt by Mamdani's staff to meet with Iran's UN representative, a meeting that was reportedly thwarted by the U.S. State Department. "Prime Minister Netanyahu will proudly speak at the General Assembly, despite the threats, incitement, and antisemitic rhetoric we have heard from the mayor of New York City," Danon stated, urging Mamdani to focus on his mayoral duties.

Meanwhile, reports suggest Netanyahu may alter his U.S. itinerary, potentially bypassing New York for Texas. There, he is expected to visit Elon Musk's production facilities and meet with Governor Greg Abbott. Observers speculate this change could be a response to potential provocations by Mamdani at New York airports.
