Wounded IDF Reservist Neriah Leiter Continues to Serve After Brother's Death

Neriah Leiter, an IDF reservist, is fighting for his life after being critically wounded in a terror attack on Route 433 on Tuesday. Leiter, who sustained a severe head injury, underwent a complex brain surgery that lasted for hours. Doctors at Shaare Zedek Medical Center described his condition as stable but still critical, expressing hope for his recovery.

Leiter's family has a history of significant loss and dedication to service. His older brother, Moshe, was killed in combat during the current war. Despite this profound loss, Neriah chose to return to combat reserve duty after a brief period in a non-combat role, feeling a need to contribute to the ongoing fight. He was attached to a battalion operating in Judea and Samaria at the time of the attack.

Friends describe Neriah as a kind, beloved, and community-oriented individual who has taken on a leadership role within his family since his brother's death. His father, Yehiel Leiter, Israel's Ambassador to the United States, returned to Israel and visited his son at the hospital. He noted that Neriah has been a pillar of strength for the family, helping them cope with Moshe's loss.

The terror attack occurred when a 29-year-old assailant drove his vehicle into a police car at a checkpoint near the town of Beit El. Security forces on the scene neutralized the attacker. The incident has prompted widespread calls for prayer for Neriah's recovery from across the Israeli public.
