Mother of Wounded IDF Reservist Speaks of Shock and Grief

Chani, the mother of IDF reservist Neria Laiter, who was wounded in a terror attack at a checkpoint on Route 443 yesterday, shared her family's shock and pain in an interview with Galei Tzahal radio.

She recounted how her daughter-in-law, Neria's wife, initially thought the news was about an explosive device when she came to deliver the devastating update. "It's impossible to get used to this. We are still in shock," Chani said, relaying her daughter-in-law's disbelief. "She keeps saying, 'I can't believe this is happening to us.'"

Chani described her son as a remarkable individual who was deeply committed to his family, especially after his brother Moshe fell. "After his brother Moshe fell, he wanted so much to gather us all, and he helped all of us. He held our hand. He was amazing," she stated.

Regarding Neria's children, Chani confirmed that his wife informed their 11-year-old son yesterday. Friends stayed with the children overnight while the wife traveled to tell them the news. Neria Laiter was injured in a terror attack at a checkpoint on Route 443.
