Israeli Reservist Critically Injured in Terror Attack Undergoes Complex Brain Surgery

Neriah Leiter, a reservist and son of Israel's Ambassador to the United States, remains in very serious condition and his life is in danger following a car-ramming attack on Route 443 on Wednesday. He sustained a head injury and underwent life-saving procedures in the trauma unit at Shaare Zedek Medical Center before being admitted for a complex, multi-hour brain surgery. Surgical and intensive care teams are continuing to treat him, while social workers are supporting his family.

Leiter was injured when a terrorist accelerated his vehicle towards forces operating near the "Bal" checkpoint on Route 443. The soldiers at the scene returned fire and neutralized the attacker.

This incident occurs as the Leiter family is already mourning the loss of their eldest son, Major (res.) Moshe Yedidiah Leiter, who was killed in combat in Beit Hanoun in northern Gaza in November 2023 during Operation "Swords of Iron." Despite this loss, Neriah continued his reserve service, undertaking hundreds of days of duty on various fronts since October 7th. He had previously described the difficult decision to return to service as a grieving brother but felt compelled to support his comrades.

Following the attack, Ambassador Yechiel Leiter requested prayers for his son Neriah Dov ben Hannah, stating his belief in the power of prayer and miracles when the people of Israel unite. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited the Leiter family at Shaare Zedek Medical Center on Thursday morning before departing for New York for a UN assembly. Prayers for Neriah's recovery have been held, including at the Western Wall.
