Son of Security Official, Two Officers Investigated for Car Theft, Damage

The Police Investigation Department (PID) is investigating three Border Police officers, including the son of a senior security official, on suspicion of car theft, unauthorized use of a vehicle, and abuse of authority. The incident allegedly occurred during a patrol in the Jerusalem periphery.

According to the suspicions, the three officers spotted a parked car with keys inside. Without legal authority, they allegedly drove the car, causing damage to nearby vehicles, before abandoning it without reporting the incident to their superiors. The vehicle has not yet been recovered.

During questioning, the son of the security official claimed he was ordered to move the car into Israeli territory. He stated that he acted on a command from his superiors, who allegedly instructed him to take the abandoned vehicle. He added that the car became stuck during the drive, and after failing to move it, they left it and returned to their police vehicle.

His lawyer, Itzik Cohen, stated that the officer, a Border Police combatant who recently completed basic training, was acting under orders during an operational activity. Cohen asserted that his client acted as expected in a hierarchical system and provided a full account to investigators.

All three officers were released under restrictive conditions, including a 15-day ban from police facilities, pending the continuation of the investigation, which is being handled by the PID's Jerusalem team.
