Son of Fallen IDF Commander Arrested in West Bank Violence Probe

Israeli security forces have arrested 11 suspects in connection with riots that occurred in the southern Hebron Hills region in July. The arrests, conducted by the Judea and Samaria District's inter-organizational command and the Shin Bet security agency, took place over the past few days. Among those detained is 18-year-old Uri Steinberg, son of the late Colonel Yonatan Steinberg, former commander of the Nahal Brigade, who was killed on October 7th. Steinberg was apprehended at Ben Gurion Airport while attempting to fly to Uman, Ukraine, and is being investigated for involvement in several violent incidents and arson. He is scheduled for a remand hearing on Friday.

Another suspect is a regular IDF soldier, arrested in cooperation with military police for alleged involvement in the same events. Additionally, a 16-year-old from Judea and Samaria, also en route to Uman, was arrested at the airport based on an arrest warrant for nationalistic offenses in the Samaria region. He was questioned at the Ariel police station and subsequently released under conditions.

In a separate incident, a 29-year-old resident of Judea and Samaria was arrested in northern Israel for repeatedly violating an IDF commander's order, including a daily police station appearance requirement. He is being investigated by the Judea and Samaria District's inter-organizational command and will appear in court on Friday.

These arrests follow the detention of a 19-year-old resident of Judea and Samaria suspected of involvement in a violent attack in the village of Kusra last Saturday. His remand hearing is also scheduled for Friday.
