More than 250,000 people saw "Kupa Roshit: The Movie" within four days of its release, making for a strong opening for the film based on the popular Kan 11 series. It premiered last Wednesday on Israeli Cinema Day and quickly became a box-office success.
The current opening is still below the all-time record for an Israeli film, which belongs to "Let It Be Shuli Sun," with 210,000 viewers in its first three days. The comparison underscores how unusually strong the new film’s start has been, even if it did not surpass the record.
Moshe Aderi, the distributor for United King Films, called the result "an extraordinary achievement." He said that "in such a complex period, it is moving to see the Israeli public choosing to go to the cinema."
Aderi added that hearing laughter in full theaters was "a huge sense of satisfaction for everyone who was involved in making the film," and, in his words, "a reminder of the power of cinema to give audiences moments of joy and relief."
