The film version of the hit Kan 11 series, “Kupa Rashit: The Movie,” has recorded one of the strongest openings in Israeli cinema in recent years, according to the production. More than 250,000 people went to theaters across Israel in the first four days after release.
The movie opened on Wednesday, timed to coincide with Israeli Cinema Day, and pulled in large audiences throughout the weekend. The cast includes the original stars of the television series.
The opening is being described as a record for a local film in recent years, though it still falls short of the all-time Israeli cinema opening record. That honor remains with “Lehafkir et Shuli,” which drew 210,000 viewers in its first three days.
Moshe Aderi, the film’s distributor through United King Films, said the response was exceptional. “More than a quarter of a million viewers in just four days is an extraordinary achievement,” he said. “In such a difficult period, it is moving to see the Israeli audience choosing to come to the cinema.” He added that hearing laughter in full theaters was “a huge sense of satisfaction” and a reminder of cinema’s power to give audiences moments of joy and relief.
