The film version of the hit Israeli comedy series "Kupa Rashit" has opened with one of the strongest box office starts seen in local cinema in recent years. According to the film’s producers, more than 250,000 people went to theaters across Israel in the first four days after release.
The movie, which features the original cast from Kan 11’s popular series, premiered on Wednesday, the same day as Israeli Cinema Day. It then drew large audiences throughout the weekend, helping turn the launch into a major local success.
Despite the impressive result, the all-time record for the biggest opening in Israeli cinema still belongs to "Leshachrer Et Shuli," which sold 210,000 tickets in its first three days. The current figures, however, are the strongest opening numbers for an Israeli film in years.
Distributors at United King Films welcomed the turnout. Moshe Ederi said, "More than a quarter of a million viewers in just four days is an extraordinary achievement. In such a difficult period, it is moving to see Israeli audiences choosing to come to the cinema." He added that hearing laughter in full theaters was deeply rewarding and showed the power of cinema to bring joy and relief.
