“Checkout: The Movie” has surpassed 250,000 admissions just four days after its theatrical release, making it one of the standout cinema events in Israel in recent years. The film, based on the hit Channel 11 series “Checkout” and featuring the show’s full cast, opened on Israeli Cinema Day last Wednesday and quickly became a major cultural draw.
The strong turnout places the movie among the most successful Israeli films in their early days on the big screen. Even so, the all-time opening record still belongs to “Let Me Go, Shuli Sun,” which drew 210,000 viewers in its first three days.
Distributor Moshe Ederi, speaking for United King Films, called the result exceptional. “More than a quarter of a million viewers in just four days is an extraordinary achievement,” he said. “In such a complex period, it is moving to see Israeli audiences choosing to come to cinemas.”
Ederi added that hearing laughter in packed theaters is deeply rewarding for everyone involved in the production, and a reminder of cinema’s power to give audiences moments of joy and relief.
