Arkia Launches Direct Flights from Tel Aviv to Madeira

Israeli airline Arkia has announced the launch of a new direct flight route from Tel Aviv to Madeira, the Portuguese archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean. The service is being operated in partnership with Millennium and will initially consist of three flights. Arkia plans to make the route a permanent fixture, expanding its direct offerings from Israel.

The flights will utilize an Arkia Airbus A321, with a direct flight time of approximately 6 hours and 20 minutes. The destination is notable as the airport in Madeira is named after the island's native football superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo. The airport is known for its operational complexity due to terrain and runway access, requiring specialized pilot training.

Arkia confirmed that its pilots have completed the necessary training for operating flights to Madeira. The island is a popular tourist destination, primarily known for its natural landscapes and leisure activities. These new direct flights are expected to significantly reduce travel time for Israeli tourists, who previously had to rely on connecting flights.
