Local Council Employee Arrested for Allegedly Installing Listening Device
Police investigators arrested a 65-year-old local council employee, a resident of Gush Halav, on suspicion of installing secret listening devices in the office of the head of the local authority. The arrest occurred Tuesday evening shortly after a council meeting concluded, when police raided the council offices. The investigation began several weeks ago after the local authority filed a formal complaint with the police, expressing serious concerns about illegal monitoring and listening devices within the council offices. A covert investigation by the Northern District's fraud unit, in cooperation with internal council officials, uncovered technological evidence supporting these suspicions.
During the raid, police found additional evidence on the suspect and in his possession that directly links him to the alleged crime. The suspect is scheduled to appear before the Tiberias Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, where police will request an extension of his detention to continue their investigation. The police stated that the circumstances and motive behind the act are still under investigation.
