Northern Council Employee Arrested for Suspected Eavesdropping Device Installation
An employee of a local council in northern Israel was arrested yesterday on suspicion of installing eavesdropping devices in the council head's office. The arrest occurred at the council offices following a covert investigation initiated by a complaint filed several weeks ago regarding suspected wiretapping.
Investigators from the North District's fraud unit, working with council officials, uncovered evidence that reportedly strengthened the suspicions. The investigation became public yesterday after a meeting concluded at the council offices. Police arrived and apprehended the suspect, a 65-year-old resident of Gush Halav.
Police stated that evidence found in the suspect's possession allegedly links him to the act. Authorities are expected to request an extension of his detention from the Tiberias Magistrate's Court today. The investigation is ongoing.
