Local Council Employee Arrested in Northern Israel for Alleged Wiretap Device Installation
Israeli police in the Northern District have arrested an employee of a local council on suspicion of installing a listening device in the office of the council head. The investigation began several weeks ago after the local authority reported suspicions of a secret wiretap device within its offices. A covert investigation by the Northern District's fraud division, in cooperation with council officials, uncovered evidence supporting the suspicions.
Following the transition to a public investigation, police raided the council offices shortly after a meeting concluded. They arrested a 65-year-old resident of Jish, finding evidence linking him to the alleged act. Police are expected to request an extension of his detention from the Tiberias Magistrate's Court, as the investigation into the circumstances of the case continues.
