Southern Israel Council Head Arrested on Bribery and Fraud Charges
A serving council head in southern Israel, along with family members, has been arrested on suspicion of bribery, bid rigging, fraud, and fictitious employment. The arrests are part of a covert investigation by Lahav 433, Israel's national fraud squad, which has been ongoing for several months. Authorities also searched the local council's offices.
Investigators suspect the arrested individuals acted to fraudulently obtain funds from the council for their personal gain. Six additional suspects were detained in connection with the case.
The police stated that this operation targets significant criminal activity within the Bedouin sector in the Negev, aiming to prevent criminal elements from turning official local authorities into bases for illegal operations. The investigation is ongoing.
