Tel Sheva Mayor Arrested on Suspicion of Bribery, Fraud; Detention Extended
The mayor of Tel Sheva, Omar Ze'el Al'asam, has been arrested on suspicion of bribery, bid rigging, fraud, and fictitious employment. A court in Petah Tikva extended his detention by eight days, until September 7.
According to the court's decision, Judge Erez Malmad stated that the evidence presented paints a "serious picture" of the mayor and others exploiting their positions for personal gain. The judge noted that public funds were used to advance personal interests, with significant sums diverted into the pockets of others and themselves, thereby damaging public trust.
