Three Israelis Detained in Egypt for Six Months, Families Seek Answers

Three Israeli citizens from the Bedouin community of Segev Shalom have been held in detention in Egypt for approximately six months, since their arrest on March 21. The men, identified as Bilal Masaudien, 27, Bilal Salem Abu Ayish, 28, and Ahmed Aldogi, 25, were traveling by taxi back to Israel from a vacation in Sharm El Sheikh when they were reportedly taken from their vehicle by Egyptian security forces. One of the detainees managed to contact his family briefly, stating they were being held, before all contact was lost.

Since then, families have had no communication with the detainees and have been unable to ascertain their whereabouts or condition. Two Egyptian lawyers hired to assist in the case have also failed to obtain information from local authorities, according to the families. The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed it is engaged with Egyptian authorities and has received confirmation that the three are indeed in detention, but no further details regarding their location or detention conditions have been provided.

Families were informed that the detention is not related to a standard criminal offense but to "matters related to Egypt's national security." No further official details have been released, and it remains unclear if the men have appeared before a judge or if charges have been filed against them. The families initially maintained a media silence, hoping for a diplomatic resolution, but after six months without contact or clear information, they are now demanding basic answers.

Former Knesset member Taleb al-Sana, who is assisting the families, has appealed to senior Israeli officials to expedite the handling of the case. He stated it is unacceptable for Israeli citizens to be held for months in a neighboring country without their families knowing their location or condition. The mystery persists: three Israelis have been detained in Egypt for half a year, Israel acknowledges their detention, but the precise reason for their arrest, their location, and their well-being remain unknown to the public and their families.
