Families of Three Israelis Detained in Egypt Seek Answers Amidst Stalled Official Updates

The legal and popular follow-up team for three young Israelis detained in Egypt has stated that they have not received any new official information regarding their status. The three individuals traveled to Sharm El Sheikh on March 20, 2026, and were arrested in Egypt on March 23, 2026. Following their arrest, the team communicated with the Egyptian Consul General in Tel Aviv, who confirmed their detention, stated they were being investigated, and would either be brought to justice or released based on the investigation's outcome. The Consul also assured that he was following the matter with the relevant authorities in Cairo.

In May 2026, the families received a written response from the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirming the detentions and indicating the ministry was in contact with Egyptian authorities. However, despite repeated attempts to contact the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including reaching out to Minister Gideon Sa'ar and receiving assistance from Moti Franco, no substantial new information has been provided by the Israeli government. The families have also hired lawyers in Egypt to pursue the case legally, but these lawyers have not yet received sufficient information to proceed effectively.

The team urged Arab members of the Knesset to increase their efforts and contacts with both Egyptian and Israeli officials, leveraging their Arab and diplomatic ties. The primary goal remains the well-being and legal status clarification of the three young men, aiming for their safe return home through all possible legal and diplomatic means.
