Investigation Concludes in Murder of 'Caucasus Mafia Boss'

Israeli police announced Tuesday the conclusion of their investigation into the assassination of Yanis Yushbayev, identified as the "head of the Caucasus mafia," who was shot and killed last month at a gas station near Caesarea. A statement of charges has been filed against a 54-year-old resident of Beit She'an, paving the way for a severe indictment in the Haifa Magistrate's Court.

Yushbayev, 41, from Or Akiva, was fatally shot on August 23 as he exited a restaurant at a gas station. Paramedics provided medical treatment and attempted resuscitation before transporting him to Hillel Yaffe Medical Center in Hadera, where he was pronounced dead shortly after.

Through covert and overt investigative efforts, police successfully identified and apprehended the main suspect within days. Security camera footage reportedly shows the suspect shooting Yushbayev in the back of the head, and DNA evidence has linked the suspect to the crime scene.

Authorities believe the suspect, a known property offender, did not act alone and had accomplices. Three additional suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident. The main suspect's detention was repeatedly extended by the court. Following the accumulation of sufficient evidence by the Coastal District Special Investigations Unit proving the suspect's involvement in the murder, the statement of charges was filed.
