Suspect Arrested in Murder of Caucasus Crime Boss in Caesarea
Israeli police announced Tuesday the unraveling of the murder of Yanis Yushbayev, the head of the Caucasus crime family, who was shot and killed in Caesarea approximately one month ago. Yushbayev, a 41-year-old resident of Or Akiva, was fatally shot on August 23 at a gas station in Caesarea.
Shortly after the investigation began, police apprehended Doron Weizman, a 54-year-old resident of Beit She'an, on suspicion of carrying out the assassination. Weizman's detention has been extended multiple times since his arrest, and a statement of intent to indict was filed against him on Tuesday.
The Haifa District Prosecutor's Office, which oversaw the investigation, is expected to file an indictment against Weizman in the Haifa Magistrate's Court in the coming days. The prosecution will also request that he be held in custody until the legal proceedings are concluded.
