Hundreds Mourn Father of Six Killed in West Bank Terror Attack

Hundreds of mourners gathered on Monday, September 21, at the cemetery in the Alei Zahav settlement to bid farewell to Netanel Shachron, who was killed the previous day in a shooting attack near the settlement of Neve Tzuf in Judea and Samaria. The attack occurred as Shachron and his 16-year-old son, Yoav, were at a natural spring for a traditional purification ritual before the Yom Kippur holiday. An armed assailant opened fire on their vehicle. Shachron's widow, Meirav, recounted that her husband had shouted a warning to their son moments before he was fatally wounded, saving Yoav's life. Yoav publicly thanked his father for his sacrifice and pledged to support the family. The funeral was attended by family, friends, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, and IDF Central Command chief Maj. Gen. Avi Bluth.

Regional council head Yossi Dagan called for a large-scale operation in Judea and Samaria, including the confiscation of weapons and the restoration of checkpoints, in response to the attack. Following the shooting, the assailant fled on foot but was wounded and apprehended by Israeli soldiers from the Binyamin regional brigade. Shachron was taken to Beilinson Medical Center in Petah Tikva, where he was pronounced dead. The wounded terrorist was later detained at a hospital near Ramallah.

Judea and Samaria continue to experience heightened security tensions amid an ongoing conflict. Official data indicates a significant rise in violent incidents in the region in recent years, resulting in numerous Israeli casualties. The military conducts regular operations in Palestinian towns to prevent further attacks.
