Dozens of Israelis Fall Ill at Luxury Seychelles Resort

Approximately 40 Israelis vacationing at a Club Med resort in the Seychelles have reported severe illness, including high fever, diarrhea, and vomiting, since Wednesday, September 22, 2021. The symptoms began to spread rapidly by Friday night, with guests describing the situation as people "falling like flies." A WhatsApp group created by the affected Israelis shows 39 members reporting symptoms, ranging from mild to severe.

Guests claim the illness began after they ate at one of the resort's restaurants, contradicting a doctor brought to the resort who suggested the illness originated in Israel. The doctor administered IV fluids and injections to some guests, but the Israelis insist the cause is local. They also noted that while most affected are Israeli, a French couple and a German couple have also shown symptoms, though Israelis constitute about 90% of the resort's guests.

Reports from the guests indicate a lack of adequate medical attention and support from the resort management. They allege the resort manager initially downplayed the number of sick individuals and claimed there was no food poisoning. Guests also claim that access to the resort doctor was restricted, forcing them to seek medical help independently or through their insurance companies. Furthermore, guests reported a decline in services, including a lack of mineral water, room cleaning, and fresh linens.

Club Med Israel stated that initial tests have not revealed a bacterial cause and the origin of the illness remains undetermined, with the possibility of it originating from Israel still being investigated. The company emphasized that guest health and safety are top priorities and that the medical team is providing necessary care. They are continuing to investigate the situation with relevant medical and professional authorities.
