Dozens of Israelis Fall Ill at Luxury Seychelles Resort

Approximately 40 Israelis vacationing at a Club Med resort in the Seychelles have reported severe illness, including high fever, diarrhea, and vomiting, since Wednesday, September 22, 2021. The symptoms began to appear on Friday, with guests describing a rapid onset of sickness.

Guests claim the illness began after eating at one of the resort's restaurants, contradicting a doctor brought to the resort who suggested the travelers may have arrived with an illness from Israel. The doctor administered IV fluids and injections to some guests, but others were too ill to travel to the main island for treatment.

Despite the resort initially reporting only six cases, a WhatsApp group created by the affected Israelis shows 39 individuals experiencing symptoms. While the majority of those ill are reportedly Israeli, a French couple and a German couple are also believed to be affected. The guests allege that the resort's management has hindered access to medical care and reduced services like room cleaning and fresh linens.

Club Med Israel stated that initial tests have not found a bacterial cause for the illness and that the source is still under investigation, with the possibility of it originating from Israel being examined. The company emphasized that guest health and safety are top priorities and that the medical team is providing necessary care.
