Dozens of Israelis Fall Ill at Seychelles Resort, Facing Difficult Return Flight

Approximately 40 Israeli tourists vacationing at a Club Med resort in the Seychelles have fallen ill with symptoms including vomiting, diarrhea, and high fever, with some experiencing temperatures up to 40 degrees Celsius (104 Fahrenheit). One guest reportedly fainted and had to be evacuated by boat from the remote island for medical treatment. The affected tourists, staying at the Club Med resort on Sainte Anne Island, have formed a WhatsApp group to share their experiences, with the first cases reported on Friday night.

Guests suspect the illness originated at the resort, citing the isolated location where all food and drink are supplied by Club Med. However, resort management has suggested the tourists may have arrived with the illness from their flight or from Israel. One guest described the situation as a "medical nightmare," detailing severe dehydration, the need for IV fluids, and instances of guests being unable to control their bodily functions. Another guest reported that their four children have been ill since Saturday night, requiring treatment at a private clinic.

The medical facilities at the resort are limited, with a doctor reportedly providing only antibiotics and IV fluids, and advising those needing further treatment to arrange their own evacuation to a hospital. The remote location has also complicated matters with insurance companies. Following complaints to Club Med Israel, guests reported a slight improvement in the resort's response, including the hotel manager meeting those returning from the hospital and sanitizing hands.

A significant concern for the ill tourists is their upcoming return flight to Israel, scheduled for the following day. They are worried about the logistics of transporting around 40 sick individuals, many still experiencing severe symptoms, on a flight that will also carry other Club Med guests. Some guests have been struggling to manage basic needs, with one man reporting that his elderly mother required diapers due to her condition.
