Dozens of Israelis Fall Ill at Seychelles Resort With Fever, Vomiting

Dozens of Israeli tourists vacationing at the Club Med Seychelles resort have reported severe symptoms including high fever, vomiting, and diarrhea. The illnesses began to appear several days after a group of Israelis arrived for a week-long holiday last Wednesday. A WhatsApp group created by affected tourists now includes approximately 50 individuals sharing similar experiences.

One tourist, Shiri Heller Schwarz, described her son's severe symptoms, including high fever, hallucinations, and intense stomach pain, stating he was "burning up." She noted that the symptoms started on Saturday, and soon other families began reporting similar illnesses. Tourists have sought medical attention at a local clinic, where infections were detected, possibly bacterial, likely contracted through food or water at the resort.

Club Med has stated that the cause of the illness is not yet established and that initial checks have not revealed any signs linking the sickness to the resort or its food. The company suggested the illness might have been contracted before arrival. They also reported that out of over 400 guests at the resort, including hundreds of Israelis, only 38 Israelis reported similar symptoms, and no guests from other countries have reported comparable issues.

Heller Schwarz criticized Club Med's response, calling it "insulting" and stating they had to beg for basic necessities like water and clean linens. She also questioned the medical support provided, noting that a doctor was not always available. Club Med Israel, however, asserted that they are taking the situation seriously, have deployed medical and operational teams, and are conducting a comprehensive investigation with medical specialists. Most affected guests are reportedly recovering.
