Romanian Midfielder Hagi Reportedly Rejects Maccabi Tel Aviv for Marseille

Romanian midfielder Ianis Hagi, 27, has reportedly turned down an offer from Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv in favor of a potential move to French side Marseille. According to a report from Romanian outlet Fanatik, Hagi has reached a preliminary agreement with Marseille and could join the club during the January transfer window.

The report claims Hagi preferred the prospect of playing in France's Ligue 1 over a transfer to Maccabi Tel Aviv, despite the Israeli club offering him at least one million euros per season. While the French transfer window closed on September 1, Hagi would only be eligible to join Marseille in January if a deal is finalized.

This is not the first time Hagi has been linked with Maccabi Tel Aviv. Reports surfaced two weeks ago suggesting the Israeli club was attempting to sign him, with his agent indicating dissatisfaction at his current club, Turkish side Alanyaspor. Hagi was also rumored to be close to joining Maccabi Tel Aviv last summer, though that move ultimately did not materialize, and he signed with Alanyaspor instead.

Hagi, the son of legendary footballer Gheorghe Hagi, currently plays for Alanyaspor, where he has scored five goals and provided three assists in 34 appearances since joining. His contract with the Turkish club runs until 2027. His career has included stints at several European clubs, including Fiorentina, Genk, Rangers, and Elche.
