Over 2 Kilos of Synthetic Drug Seized in Ben Gurion Airport Smuggling Attempt
Israeli authorities at Ben Gurion Airport have arrested a resident of Abu Ghosh on suspicion of attempting to smuggle over two kilograms of the synthetic drug MDMB. The substance was reportedly concealed within bottles labeled as liquid for printer ink, which arrived in a shipment from Thailand.
Customs investigators at the airport's drug unit became suspicious of the shipment, addressed to the Abu Ghosh resident, during a targeted enforcement operation on imported goods. An initial inspection suggested the bottles contained synthetic drugs.
In a joint operation, detectives from the Yamam (Special Operations Unit) of the Shfela region tracked the package until it reached the Yad Binyamin area. They apprehended the suspect, a resident of Abu Ghosh, as he arrived to collect the parcel.
During questioning, the suspect claimed he was unaware the shipment contained drugs. He stated that a relative living in Thailand had asked him to collect the package for them.
The seized substance has been sent for further analysis at the Israel Police's forensic identification laboratories. The suspect's detention was extended by the court, and the joint investigation by Yamam Shfela and the Ben Gurion Airport Customs drug unit is ongoing.
