Synthetic Drug Smuggling Attempt from Thailand Foiled at Ben Gurion Airport

Customs investigators at Ben Gurion Airport have intercepted a shipment from Thailand containing over two kilograms of a substance suspected to be the synthetic drug MDMB. The illicit material was concealed within bottles designed to appear as liquid for printer ink. The package arrived in Israel via a courier company and was flagged for inspection by the customs drug unit.

Initial tests indicated the presence of the suspected synthetic drug, and authorities discovered the package was addressed to a resident of Abu Ghosh. A joint investigation was launched by the customs drug unit and the central unit of the Shfela region police.

Undercover officers from the Shfela region police tracked the shipment to the Yad Binyamin area. When the intended recipient, the Abu Ghosh resident, arrived to collect the package, police apprehended him. During interrogation, the suspect denied knowledge of the package's contents, claiming a relative in Thailand had asked him to pick it up.

The seized substance, weighing over two kilograms, has been sent for further analysis at police forensic laboratories to definitively identify its type and composition. The suspect's detention was extended by a court, and the investigation by customs and police is ongoing.
