Customs Officers Intercept Smuggled Synthetic Drugs Arriving from Thailand

Customs investigators at Ben Gurion Airport, in cooperation with detectives from the central district's intelligence unit, thwarted an attempt to smuggle over 2 kilograms of a substance suspected to be the synthetic drug MDMB. The shipment arrived via courier from Thailand, disguised within bottles that were labeled as containing liquid for printer ink production.

The suspicious shipment, destined for a resident of Abu Ghosh, triggered the attention of customs drug unit investigators during a targeted enforcement operation on incoming shipments. Initial checks indicated the bottles contained a synthetic drug.

As the joint investigation progressed, detectives from the central district's intelligence unit tracked the shipment to the Yad Binyamin area. Upon the suspect's arrival to collect the package, he was apprehended by detectives for questioning. During his interrogation, the suspect claimed he was unaware of the shipment's contents, stating a relative in Thailand had asked him to collect the package.

The seized substance has been sent for further analysis at the forensic laboratories of the Israel Police. The suspect was brought before a judge, who extended his detention. The investigation, a joint effort between the central district's intelligence unit and the customs drug unit at Ben Gurion Airport, is ongoing.
