Netanyahu Cuts US Visit Short Amid Domestic Political Concerns

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has significantly shortened his planned visit to the United States, reducing it to just a few hours in New York. Originally scheduled for several days, Netanyahu will now only be in the US to address the UN General Assembly and will return to Israel immediately afterward. His team had initially planned a trip to Texas to meet with Elon Musk, but this meeting has been canceled at Netanyahu's decision, according to Israeli sources. The Texas trip was considered logistically challenging, requiring mid-flight refueling for the prime minister's plane.

Netanyahu is now expected to arrive in New York on the morning of Thursday, September 24, to deliver his speech at 2:00 PM local time. He intends to depart for Israel directly after his address. A planned meeting with US President Donald Trump also failed to materialize, with Netanyahu's representatives reportedly unable to secure one. The White House cited "time constraints" as the reason for the absence of a meeting. Trump is scheduled to speak at the UN on Tuesday, September 22, before returning to Washington for a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

An unnamed American source suggested that the shortened visit is partly due to the upcoming elections in Israel. The revised itinerary means Netanyahu's trip will not include the Texas visit, the meeting with Musk, or, as currently scheduled, a meeting with President Trump, limiting his time in New York to only his UN address.
