Driver Arrested After Teenager Killed in Deadly Hit-and-Run Incident

A court has extended the arrest of a driver from Kafr Manda, suspected of fatally hitting a 17-year-old boy in Hadera. The incident occurred last night in the parking lot of the "Hoh Village" mall in Hadera, where the victim, Amihai Attia, was killed. Witnesses told the Hebrew website "Walla!" that a confrontation preceded the fatal incident. They stated that the driver, a young man from Kafr Manda, had an altercation with individuals participating in a communal prayer service held on the eve of Yom Kippur. The worshippers were reportedly angered by the driver unloading goods at the location during the prayer, leading to a clash.

Police announced this morning the death of the boy and the injury of another person from a shooting that also took place at the scene. Hebrew media sources reported that the shooter was questioned and claimed he believed the incident was a terrorist attack. Police are accusing the Kafr Manda driver of negligence, reckless driving, and endangering a life.

Surveillance footage captured the moment of the hit-and-run, showing individuals chasing the vehicle in reverse before it stopped. The driver then proceeded forward, resulting in the collision with the victim. The driver was apprehended at the entrance to Netanya. Initially taken to the hospital, he was subsequently interrogated on suspicion of murder, though this charge was later dropped. The Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) has also ruled out a nationalistic motive for the incident.
