“Hit Me Over”: Mordechai David and Eyal Berkovic Summoned for Questioning After Roadside Clash

Mordechai David and Eyal Berkovic were summoned for questioning following a roadside confrontation / social media footage, according to Section 27A of the Copyright Law

The police opened an investigation on Wednesday into footage circulated on social media showing right-wing activist Mordechai David lying on the car of former footballer and media personality Eyal Berkovic, while Berkovic continued driving for several long seconds. Following the incident, the two were summoned for questioning. David was questioned under caution and released under restrictive conditions, while, according to investigators, Berkovic was summoned for questioning today but did not appear, and his questioning is expected to take place, likely during the coming week.

According to the footage, David ran toward Berkovic’s car with the help of a friend riding a motorcycle to block his path. He then climbed onto the car’s bumper and shouted at the driver, “Hit me, you said you’d hit me,” and later was heard calling to his friend, “Block him with the motorcycle.” Even while the car continued moving, David kept filming himself as he lay on the bumper and laughed at the camera. Among other things, he was heard saying, “Block him, stand in front of him with the motorcycle. Go after him. If I fall.” The footage was circulated, and the two will be investigated.

Only after Berkovic stopped the car and got out did David continue confronting him on camera and say, “Go on, Berko, I blocked you. Throw a punch, stand in front of me, show me those powers.” Berkovic replied, “Nothing will help you, I’m not violent.” The confrontation did not end there. David continued and accused him, “Does Channel 13 know that you are a convicted criminal? Do you know that Eli Ohana is ten times a better player than you?”

The police said the two were summoned for questioning following the circulated footage, which raised suspicion of blocking a vehicle and reckless driving that endangered lives. David was questioned under caution on suspicion of offenses including invasion of privacy, public nuisance, and disorderly conduct in a public place. At the end of his questioning, he was released under restrictive conditions and barred from contact with Eyal Berkovic.
