Motor Vehicle Blocking Incident: Mordechai David Questioned Under Caution, Berkovic Expected to Be Questioned Later
Following a blocking incident that took place earlier this week, right-wing activist Mordechai David, known for his protests against demonstrators who block roads and against leading figures in the left-wing camp, was questioned under caution this afternoon (Wednesday) at a police station on suspicion of privacy violations, public nuisance and disorderly conduct in a public place. Network 13 and 103FM radio host Eyal Berkovic was also summoned for questioning under caution and is expected to be questioned later. The incident began on Monday, when David tried to block Berkovic’s vehicle, the second time he has attempted a similar act against the presenter. In the previous incident between the two, which took place last February, Berkovic managed to escape and continue driving after cutting into the opposite lane, accelerating and fleeing. During this week’s incident, David was documented lying on the car’s hood while Berkovic continued driving. During the confrontation, Berkovic got out of his car and took David’s mobile phone from his hands. David got into the vehicle in an attempt to retrieve the device, and afterward the two were seen partly embracing and partly grappling. “You’re lucky that I really hate Guy Peleg, and not you,” David said.
During the investigation, David filed a complaint against Eyal Berkovic and claimed, “If I hadn’t been strong enough, I would have fallen into the road and been run over.” At the end of his questioning, the right-wing activist was released under restrictive conditions, including a ban on contacting the presenter and a 15-day stay-away order. Police said, “Investigators from the Glilot Station in the Yarkon District summoned two involved parties for questioning בעקבות documentation that was circulated on social media earlier this week, in which there was suspicion of vehicle blocking and reckless driving that endangered human life. One of the involved parties, a Bnei Brak resident in his 20s, was questioned today under caution at the police station on suspicion of privacy violations, public nuisance and disorderly conduct in a public place. At the end of his questioning he was released under restrictive conditions and the investigation continues.”
Against this backdrop, Berkovic previously addressed the earlier incident between the two on the program “Moria and Berko,” which he hosts with Moria Asraf on Network 13, and said: “He now needs to go and say the HaGomel blessing, באמת. He was supposed to be run over. He jumped into the road at me and told me to stop, and I kept driving, he could have been run over. Next time? If he is standing on the road, jumps into the road at me, I will keep driving. He wants to be run over? Let him be run over.”
