The story · English

Police summoned right-wing activist Mordechai David and presenter and former footballer Eyal Berkowitz, who is considered an opponent of the government, for questioning after David posted footage on social media showing him lying on Berkowitz’s car while Berkowitz continued driving for several unusually long seconds.

Watch the confrontation between the two: David ran toward Berkowitz’s car, using a friend on a motorcycle to help block it. David climbed onto the car’s bumper and shouted: “Run me over, you said you’d run me over. Block him with the motorcycle.” David continued filming himself on the bumper, laughing at the camera while Berkowitz kept driving. “Block him, stand in front of him, stand in front of him with the motorcycle. Drive after him, drive. If I fall.”

When Berkowitz eventually stopped the car and got out, David turned the camera on him as usual and said, “Come on, Berko, I blocked you, throw a punch, stand in front of me, show that power.” Berkowitz replied, “Nothing will help you, I’m not violent.” David continued, “Does Channel 13 know you’re a convicted criminal? Do you know that Eli Ohana is a player 10 times better than you?”

Police said the two were summoned for questioning “following footage circulated online earlier this week, in which there was suspicion of blocking a vehicle and reckless driving that endangered human life.” David was questioned under caution on suspicion of offenses including invasion of privacy, public nuisance and disorderly conduct in a public place. At the end of the questioning, he was released under restrictive conditions.

Mordechai David, a convicted criminal who receives backing from government ministers and is considered close to National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, frequently arrives with his group at protests against the government and harasses participants. He also routinely harasses opposition politicians or public figures perceived as opponents of the government.
