Video Shows Arab Suspect Attacking Border Police Officer Before Being Shot in Umm al-Fahm
New footage has emerged from Umm al-Fahm showing an Arab suspect attacking a Border Police officer before the officer opened fire, killing the suspect. The incident occurred after the suspect, identified as an Umm al-Fahm resident, fled from police in a vehicle on Highway 65. Border Police and Umm al-Fahm station forces pursued the suspect until his car was cornered within the city.
The video depicts the suspect exiting his vehicle rapidly and immediately confronting and attacking the Border Police officer. The officer attempted to fend off the assault before firing his weapon to neutralize the threat. The suspect sustained injuries and was transported for medical treatment, but was later pronounced dead.
Following the incident, the Police Investigation Department (Mahash) launched an investigation into the circumstances of the shooting. The Border Police officer was questioned under caution on suspicion of causing the suspect's death. He was subsequently released to house arrest for five days, with additional restrictions including a two-week ban from police stations and a 30-day removal from the Umm al-Fahm area, while the investigation continues.
