Police Fatally Shoot Suspect During Chase in Umm al-Fahm
A young man, identified as Alaa Mahamid, was killed after being shot by a Border Police officer during a pursuit in the city of Umm al-Fahm on September 17, 2026. The incident began when officers on Route 65 noticed a suspicious vehicle and signaled for it to stop. The driver, however, failed to comply and fled, driving recklessly and endangering other road users.
The police initiated a chase that concluded within the city. During an attempt to arrest the driver, he allegedly behaved suspiciously while still inside his vehicle. According to a police statement, when an officer approached the car, the suspect suddenly exited, attacked the officer, and began to beat him. The officer then fired his weapon, hitting the suspect.
The injured suspect was transported to the hospital for medical treatment. The police have stated that the circumstances surrounding the incident are currently under investigation.
