Video Shows Arab Suspect Attacking Border Guard Before Being Fatally Shot in Umm al-Fahm

New footage has emerged from Umm al-Fahm showing the moments leading up to a Border Police officer fatally shooting an Arab suspect. The video, released hours after the Police Internal Investigations Department announced an investigation into the Border Police officer involved, depicts the suspect attempting to flee in his vehicle before becoming cornered within the city.

The incident began earlier on Thursday when Border Police motorcycle officers on Highway 65 identified a suspicious vehicle and signaled for the driver to stop. The driver refused and engaged in a dangerous pursuit that endangered the public. Border Police and officers from the Umm al-Fahm station pursued the vehicle, which eventually ended in a dead end within the city.

The released footage shows the suspect exiting his car rapidly, approaching the Border Police officer, and attacking him. The officer is seen attempting to fend off the assault before firing his weapon to neutralize the threat. The suspect was evacuated for medical treatment, but medical teams later pronounced him dead.

Following the incident, the Police Internal Investigations Department arrived at the scene to investigate the circumstances of the shooting. The Border Police officer was questioned under caution on suspicion of causing the suspect's death. He was subsequently released to house arrest for five days, with additional restrictions including a two-week ban from police stations and a 30-day removal from the Umm al-Fahm area, while the investigation continues.
